THE CREATION PROCESS ~

The Amplifier is equal to the sum of its parts.

The choice of components and materials, the care and attention to detail will all impact the end result including audio quality, durability and the longevity of the Amp.

My design philosophy is simple -FORM SHALL FOLLOW FUNCTION ‘

FUNCTION - The amp must excel at what it is designed to do * it must have exceptional tone * it must be durable & built for longevity * it must be easy to service and repair.  Only after this criteria is met do I focus my attention to;

FORM - By accentuating the natural beauty of timbers, beautiful finishes and the use of polished aluminium and a good sprinkle of ocd, my design philosophy is realised.

Custom built Amps

I like to work closely with my customers during custom builds, you have the choice of things like grill cloth, cabinet finish, knob style and indicator lamp colour. These cosmetic details are the personal touch that ensures you get an amp that is truly unique and made just for you.

Cabinets

All cabinets are handcrafted using solid knot-free pine, chosen for its light weight, strength, and resonant qualities, making it an ideal choice for amp cabinets. When available I also offer vintage pine options such as Hoop, Huon, or Kauri. Vintage pine has exceptional resonance and attractive grain patterns, enhancing both sound quality and aesthetics. Box jointed corners are exceptionally strong due to their increased glued surface area. Industry standard Titebond glue is used for all gluing operations.

I recently introduced my ‘thinline’ cabinets which feature thinner 14mm boards coupled with fixed 9mm speaker baffles resulting in a lighter, more resonant cabinet.

Baffles

Speaker baffles and rear baffles are cut from premium 9mm hoop pine ply sourced locally in the Clarence valley at Big River Timbers. Speaker baffles have an additional 7mm riser strip around the perimeter to prevent the grill cloth vibrating on the baffle face.

Finishes

A variety of stains are available and each cabinet is sprayed with a minimum of 4 coats of oil based estapol, a light sand between coats ensures a premium finish, it is then rubbed over with extra fine steel wool and orange oil, why? Because we care 🖐🏾
